Our History

Founded in the summer of 1991 by Merrill Shumway in his basement with 3 other partners, PSE had a short-lived tenure there working as electrical engineers. In the fall of that year, PSE moved into their first office and began their controls and automation division. PSE quickly doubled, then tripled in size, for its first two years working primarily in electrical engineering. PSE continued to evolve and started offering mechanical, civil and structural engineering services. With this continued growth, PSE moved into a larger office space in 1996 to handle the increasing demand for their services. Throughout the coming years, PSE completed several international projects in China, Indonesia, Mexico and Chile.  As PSE grew, the size of the projects grew larger. In 2004, PSE completed preparation work for a large refinery in the Middle East.

In 2006, PSE completed a titanium melt furnace in the tri-cities area of Washington, a composite railroad tie manufacturing facility in Texas, and a grassroots recycling project.  After moving to their current location in Sandy, Utah, PSE commenced work on an Oil Shale Recovery project and in 2008 was contracted to start work on renewable energy using wave motion technology. In 2009, PSE was recognized as one of the largest full-service consulting engineering firms founded in Utah, and to this day continues to provide support to the world’s largest mining, refining, food, and other manufacturing companies.
